Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme

Providing friendship and companionship

Funded by the Australian Government

Do you have a heart for older or lonely people and have time to visit once a fortnight? Then you are the perfect person to volunteer.

The program aims to enrich the lives of Aged Care Facility residents who may be socially isolated or lonely.

Volunteers are matched with a resident and visit them on a fortnightly basis.  The aim is for a long-lasting relationship to be built which allows the resident to feel that they have both companionship and purpose.

There are times when people may need a little help to stay connected to the wider community. This can happen whether living alone in their own homes, or in Aged Care Facilities. Volunteer visitors bring conversation, news, new interest and friendship. Visitors may also bring a special connection through a shared language, life experience, or cultural understanding.

Volunteering as an Aged Care Volunteer Visitor can be a rewarding experience for both the visitor and the person they visit. Many great friendships have been kindled through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme.
